Learning Artifact Overview: Online Peer Review
Usually, the class does in-class peer review as a part of class time. However, I believe that students can give the best feedback when they do peer review on their own time, outside of class. That way, they don’t feel rushed to complete before class ends and they don’t have the pressure of having their peer right there anxiously waiting for feedback.
For my Learning Artifact, instead of putting in just one, full-length lesson plan, I’ve decided to comprise multiple small, shorter lesson plans into one space to show what I’ve been doing all semester as a second-semester UTA for ENGL101S. We did this with the Rhetorical Analysis and Argument of Inquiry as an experiment for Professor Kim and I to see if online peer review (as opposed to in-class peer review) could improve their final drafts. I’ve included a reflection at the end talking about all the small lesson plans as a whole.
I discovered in my first semester being a UTA that I’m passionate about peer review. I believe that it’s one of the most important aspects of a student’s writing and that a lot of times it goes overlooked in English classes. I knew that I wanted to do more with peer review in my second semester as a UTA, so I took baby steps to introduce something new to the class: online peer review.
