Assignment Description
Below is what the assignment looks like on ELMS. This was inspired by the ENGL394 class that I took online over the summer where we did online peer review. The technical parts of where and how to submit this assignment are from the assignment description I had in my ENGL394 course, but each part besides those is in my own words as well as included an in-class portion.
Online Peer Review
Students who submit draft documents on time will automatically receive documents to review within 24 hours after the drafts have been submitted. The student is responsible for contacting the instructor immediately if they do not receive the documents for review.
Online Portion:
Please follow these instructions carefully.
*** Please be a considerate participant and think about what sort of feedback is especially helpful to you. It is unproductive when a student puts a lot of thought and time into giving a review, but receives a thoughtless or subpar review on their own work. Be considerate, professional, encouraging, and constructive because you will be meeting with your partner during the next class period. Students will be graded on the quality of their peer-review feedback. This doesn’t mean be over the top; the goal is to provide a helpful peer review for your classmate.***
It is very important that all students upload the completed links to the documents in two places:
In-Class Portion:
The goal of doing a peer review workshop online is to maximize the engagement and participation of peer review between your classmates. Peer review is an important part of the writing process as it will give insight for your peer while also naturally helping your own writing.
Once the online assignment is complete, in the next class period after its due date, students who peer reviewed each other will meet up in pairs (or groups) to go over what the other said face-to-face. Before breaking off into pairs, students will take a couple minutes on their laptops to read the feedback they received from their peer.
The point of breaking off into groups is to get to know another person in the classroom and ensure that the online comments make sense (it will also make sure that no one is mean because they will be meeting face-to-face the next class). The students will then be left to get the most out of doing their own individual revision process.

Online Portion:
Please follow these instructions carefully.
- Copy and paste your assigned articles to a new Word Document. Save the document using the name of the peer whose article you are reviewing. For example: MollyArticles.doc
- Using Word markup feature or the feedback feature on ELMS, provide your peer with suggestions, comments, praises, questions, etc. in the margins.
- At the end of each article, provide a dense (minimum) 2-paragraph analysis of the article. Consider all the concepts we have read about so far in the semester. For example, can you identify the purpose, ethos, counter-arguments? Is the research appropriate, credible, and compelling? What suggestions do you have for the writer to consider?

- Upload the link to your completed document (if you are using Word) to the peer's assignment space.
- Then, upload the link to your completed document to your designated peer-review submission space.
It is very important that all students upload the completed links to the documents in two places:
- Uploaded to your peer's assignment space so they can use your feedback.
- Upload to your own workshop assignment submission space so you can receive credit for completing your peer review.
